The teaching activities of the Institute for Theoretical Physics include a series of regular and special lectures, the tutoring of students in proseminars, and the arrangement of research seminars. Master students benefit from the opportunity to carry out their
master thesis in one of the research groups of the institute.

On the bachelor level the ITP provides lectures in the Theory Cycle, covering the topics: Classical Mechanics, Quantum Mechanics I, Quantum Mechanics II, Electrodynamics, Mechanics of Continua, and Theory of Heat.

Master courses cover topics in core fields
of high-energy and condensed matter physics, astrophysics and quantum
information theory. Many elective courses give access to important modern fields of theoretical physics in all fields represented at our institute.

Students interested in master theses can enquire within the research groups directly.

Studying abroad

An exchange program typically lasts 1 to 2 semesters. You must have passed your first-year examinations before applying for an exchange, and many departments or partner universities also require a certain grade point average. See the Mobility page of the Department of Physics or the Student Exchange Office of ETH for more information.

Studying at ETH

There are several exchange programs available if your university is a partner of ETH Zurich. For more information consult the Mobility page of the Department of Physics or the Student Exchange Office of ETH.

As a rule, doctoral candidates should contact and apply within one of the research groups. More information about doctoral studies at ETH can be found on the Department of Physics page and on the Rectorate's page.
