Einstein Symposium: Photo Gallery

The year 2005 marks the 100th anniversary of Einstein famous papers on the discovery of the photon, special relativity, and Brownian motion. UNESCO has declared 2005 a "World Year of Physics". Furthermore, in 2005 ETH will celebrate its 150th anniversary.

In 1896, Einstein enrolled as an undergraduate student of mathematics and physics at ETH, graduating in 1900. In 1905, he earned a PhD at the University of Zurich. From 1909 till 1911, he was a professor of physics at the University of Zurich, and from 1912 till 1914 he was on the faculty of ETH.

The year 2005 is thus a very special year, not only for the world physics community, but also for physics in Switzerland and in particular, for ETH Zurich. The department of Physics of ETH Zurich, in collaboration with the committee in charge of preparing the 150th anniversary of ETH and with the University of Zurich, has thus decided to organize an International Symposium on problems and themes in modern physics loosely connected with or inspired by Einstein's scientific work.
